Barton Announces $140,000 Investment in Berks County Career and Technology Center
August 21, 2026
HARRISBURG – Rep. Jamie Barton (R-Berks/Schuylkill) announced the Pennsylvania Department of Education has awarded a $140,000 PAsmart grant to the Berks County Career and Technology Center.
Employers across Berks County report difficulty finding candidates with both foundational skills and experience in emerging technologies, limiting economic growth and student access to high-demand careers. With this grant, the Berks County Career and Technology Center will expand its Electrical Occupations program while modernizing curriculum to reflect industry needs. Students will gain hands-on experience in fiber optic installation and troubleshooting, industrial automation systems, and electrical distribution and utility infrastructure.
“This kind of support is incredibly important,” Barton said. “Career and technical training plays a vital role in preparing students for real-world, in-demand jobs. It gives learners hands-on experience, practical skills and pathways to strong careers that keep our local workforce growing. This grant will help strengthen those opportunities and make a meaningful impact on our community.”
PAsmart grants support high-quality Career and Technical Education, STEM and computer science learning and professional development opportunities to communities across Pennsylvania, including within early learning centers, libraries, out-of-school time providers, career and technical centers, post-secondary institutions and K-12 schools.
