Greenwich Township Farmland Preserved, Barton Says

December 17, 2025

HARRISBURG – A Greenwich Township, Berks County, crop farm has been accepted into the state’s farmland preservation program. This will ensure it remains an agricultural property in perpetuity, according to Rep. Jamie Barton (R-Berks/Schuylkill).

Saddle Road LLC submitted its 95-acre farm for a conservation easement approved last week by the Pennsylvania Agriculture Land Preservation Board.

Through Pennsylvania’s Farmland Preservation Program, the state partners with local governments to purchase development rights to preserve farmland, ensuring a strong future for farming and food security. Farm owners, through this action, ensure their land remains in agricultural production and are never sold to developers.

“Pennsylvanians deserve healthy, nourishing food, and that food needs land to grow,” Barton said. “While I understand the appeal of selling land to developers, I can’t think of a better use for our acreage than feeding our communities. I applaud Pennsylvania’s farmers for looking ahead and safeguarding the future of our agricultural industry, even in these unprecedented and challenging times.”

This Greenwich Township farm was one of 27 farms preserved last week across Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania leads the nation in the number of farms and acres permanently preserved for agricultural production. The preservation program guarantees a future food supply and contributes to a healthier economy.
