Barton Announces $750,000 Keystone Grant for Hamburg Public Library

February 16, 2024

HARRISBURG - Rep. Jamie Barton (R-Berks/Schuylkill) announced today the Hamburg Public Library will receive a $750,000 Keystone grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education Office of Commonwealth Libraries. Keystone grants help public library facilities improve their operations, install equipment and upgrade security systems.

“Hamburg Public Library is one of the oldest learning centers in our area,” Barton said. “It’s also a nonprofit organization, meaning funds like this Keystone grant play a massive role in the library’s ability to make major improvements. Hamburg Public Library doesn’t just serve the borough of Hamburg. People across northern Berks and southern Schuylkill counties use the library, not just for its extensive book collection, but also its access to public computers, WiFi, faxing, photocopying, reference services and even family-friendly programming. It’s an asset to our community, and a deserving recipient of this funding.”

Hamburg Public Library was established in 1903 through a $10,000 donation from steel magnate Andrew Carnegie.
